Question for sceptics
- “If all of life is meaningless, and ultimately absurd, why bother to march straight forward, why stand in the queue as though life as a whole makes sense?” —Francis Schaeffer, The God Who Is There
- Why should humans bother with the scientific and medical research, keep account of their past discoveries, show huge effort to go to wars and maintain peace? Ask any musician why continue to compose pieces of music, what drives them? Why show courage under fire and display great sacrifices, and why should we acts with compassion and love, why would any of this mean anything to us if ultimately nobody is going to have sense of appreciation for our deeds, if we are simply a combination of biological machinery programmed only to fulfil one goal, goal of self preservation?
- If there is no immortality, why shouldn’t all things be permitted? (Dostoyevsky)
- If there is no God, there is no hope nor sense of fairness, as we only judge according to our own individual standards of right and wrong therefore we on this earth will never agree, if there is no God where will we ultimately find our comfort; as we desperately continue to search throughout our limited time on earth and NEVER finding that elusive part of us that is like a hole in the heart. If there is no God how do we account for the gifts we have that have no other purpose but to glorify him? If there is no God, how can we answer question to the purpose of life that is higher and other than ourselves, higher than our own selfish gratification?
