Christ is not valued at all; unless He is valued above all. -Augustine
Luke 10:27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
This is one of the main reasons today, why young men find this so difficult; must we open our “heart” to follow Jesus? As followers of Christ, we are supposed to give up all. And this in the world that is asking us to take full control of our destiny. Our man dominated culture of great self confidence, is now being replaced by the submission to God and to God confidence, God dependency and God centered lives.
To love means to open oneself, to make yourself vulnerable to someone else’s ideas and plans. Ironical this change has made me better father, better husband and better friend.
My wife use to say “Its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” Now that we have been married for nearly 18 years she says this no more. And the reason why; its that one gets use to the love, begins to trust the person and feels comfortable in their presence. This comes with maturity and experience acquired as we share our lives with each other.
Yes the Bible does portray us (Christians) as the Bride of Christ but it also shows God as the God the Father who cares for his children. His love is deeper and wider and more meaningful that we could understand, yet even though we are so low in our ability to understand him he is not shy in his abundance of his revelation.
What does Jesus mean to you, are you ashamed of the Cross? Or do you testify to its power to save and transform.
